Prop 8 – yeah, it was huge. Over 7 million people voted to keep the definition of marriage as between a man and a woman.
So, why do I care if Gays and Lesbians can marry in my state?
1 – Moral Reason – Because I believe in traditional marriage. I belive in God and feel that it is part of a plan that is bigger than all of us. Same Gender (Gay/ Lesbian / same sex) marriage is not
part of it. It is not what I believe in. This is perhaps the best 3 minute video ever made on this subject http://www.catholicvote.com/
2 – Legal Reason – 4 judges in San Francisco decided that 61% of the people were wrong in their beliefs. At this time, same gender partners in California have all the legal rights that a man and woman have in a marriage.
Newt Gingrich has a good 2 minute explanation of how the 4 judges are over reaching their authority and likens it to British Colonial rule. Watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=73Q4V8WNF6k
3 – Common Sense Reason – Tolerance goes both ways. Activists who want same gender marriage cry out that we should be tolerant of gay beliefs. Simply put, they already have the same rights and they should be tolerant of what traditional marriage is and what we believe.
4 – What Happens Next Reason – If Prop 8 passes and same gender marriage continues, we anticipate the following:
a – churches will be forced to allow same gender couples to marry in their church and will face legal fines, being sued and prosecuted for violating the law. One example is that Catholic Adoption Agencies in Massachussetts has closed its doors because they would not allow same gender couples to adopt and so they were forced to leave the state rather than be prosecuted. California is a very litigious state and same gender couples and activists will persecute (as well as prosecute) churches to get their way.
b – Califorrnia schools will have to teach same gender marriage as being part of marriage. It will be written into text books and curriculum and be required as law to be taught. It is already happening in Massacussetts and parents havebeen arrested for asking the school to not teach their children this. Watch here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=puI4pfRB0w0
c- As California goes, so goes the Nation. New York and LA are the largest cities in the U.S. and much of what U.S. culture is, comes from them. California is the battleground right now. This is one of
the, if not the, biggest issue in California. What happens here, will roll over to your state in the years to come.
